You can help strengthen families and create healthy homes as a Family Specialist with Thornwell’s Building Families Program! Thornwell, which has served children across Florida, Georgia and South Carolina for over a century, is seeking staff to expand its community ministry to families across the three states.
The Family Specialist will provide voluntary, intensive home-based services and parenting education to families utilizing the Teaching-Family Model of intervention. The Family Specialist will work with 3-5 families at a time, over an 8-14 week period, providing 4-6 hours of service to each family per week. The Family Specialist will provide group parenting classes and workshops, utilizing the Building Families parenting curriculum. The Family Specialist will also be responsible for identifying community referral sources and maintaining ongoing contact and coordination with community partners.
The position of Family Specialist is a salaried, full-time, exempt position that requires home visits with supportive phone calls. Excellent salary (DOE), a comprehensive benefits package, and Phone/Mileage reimbursement provided. The Family Specialist will be employed by Thornwell, and maintain office space and work collaboratively with a local church partner site.
The position requires a Master’s Degree, a provisional or full clinical license in the state of service, and experience supervising clinical and/or community-based programs. Appropriate licenses include LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) or LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist).

We are currently seeking a Supervisor for our Intensive In-Home Family Therapy Program, Building Families. This individual will be responsible for supervising remote staff serving Columbia, Cheraw and North Charleston, with additional positions added as the region expands. The Supervisor will be based in Columbia, SC and will be required to complete approximately 4 day-trips per month to provide in-person supervision, and home visit observations with their staff.

The Supervisor (aka Consultant) will implement a systematic approach to consultation and training services to help ensure the provision of quality services for clients through the use of established Thornwell, Teaching-Family Association (TFA) and Council on Accreditation (COA) standards. The Consultant will develop and maintain a diverse network of community and congregational relationships to ensure program development and sustainability.
The Consultant must be committed to positive changes in families through the implementation of the Teaching-Family Model and possess strong leadership and supervision skills; have the ability to organize, prioritize, and implement work activities independently; possess advanced technical writing skills, and desire to grow professionally. The Consultant must have experience in supervising community-based employees. This person must have a Master’s Degree and be licensed, or endorsed, in the state of South Carolina. The Consultant must have a valid driver’s license and auto insurance in the state they reside.
