Thornwell Volunteer Spotlight: Westminster Presbyterian Church (GVL) Men’s Group

All this week, we are celebrating Thornwell’s amazing volunteers! In the past year, 273 volunteers gave more than 1250 hours to Thornwell, bringing dedication, enthusiasm, and love to all they do! From organizing our donations closet to building playgrounds, to supporting foster families and ensuring the success of our inaugural fall festival and corn maze, we believe that volunteers are the lifeblood of who we are.

Today, we are excited to feature the Westminster Presbyterian Church Men’s Group from Greenville, South Carolina! For five years, they have been faithful volunteers and we are so grateful to them!

Tell us about your role and how long you’ve volunteered.

We have organized work projects needed by Thornwell at both Camp Thornwell and at the campus in Clinton. For 5 years we have spent a week each year at the Camp performing the identified work. We have successfully renovated the camp for use by different groups.

What inspired you to volunteer at Thornwell?

We were looking for a project that men of the church with all different skills could do. We visited the camp and saw that with some work the camp could be brought to a useful life. We were inspired by Pastor Elliot Smith and Greg Haselden.

What is the best part about being part of the Thornwell team?

Seeing the kids and staff that benefit from our efforts. Everyone at Thornwell is so appreciative of what we do. They are a real pleasure to work with.

Why should people volunteer with Thornwell?

We have seen firsthand that our work has benefited the lives of many kids that need just a little loving help in their lives. Volunteering really makes you appreciate where your church’s money goes. I encourage others to volunteer at Thornwell. You will benefit as much or more than those you help.
