Embracing Childhood Wonder at the CDC

The world is full of magic — especially through the eyes of a young child. The magic is often found in the smallest moments. We can learn so much from watching the way a child experiences the wonder of the world, the changing of the seasons, the simple things we often take for granted.

A pumpkin becomes a masterpiece. A silly costume becomes an entirely new identity. Leaves changing colors become something worth stopping to notice.

At Thornwell Child Development Center, we believe children learn through play, curiosity, and connection. For our kids, the most meaningful learning doesn’t happen sitting at a desk. It happens while painting a pumpkin, singing a silly song, pretending to be a favorite character, helping decorate a classroom, tasting a new food or talking about what they are thankful for.

These moments may look simple to us. To a child, they are opportunities to explore the world. And they are learning.

As the seasons change, we want to give our children room to notice. To wonder. To choose their own costume and play pretend. To experience the joy of a new song. To discover gratitude can be simple.

Childhood doesn’t need to be rushed. Sometimes, we have to go slow to go fast. Go small to go big. Because when we keep rushing toward the next thing, we can miss the thing happening right in front of us.

At Thornwell CDC, we love creating those moments with our children — and with their families.

Our families are part of the magic, too. They join us for Easter egg hunts and Halloween costume parades. They share favorite foods, celebrate at Christmas parties, admire children’s artwork, dance at school drop off, and take part in their children’s learning experience.

Because quality childcare isn’t just about caring for children. It’s about caring for families too.

This season, maybe the best gift we can give our children isn’t more. The magic is usually right in front of us. We just have to slow down enough to see it.
