Parenting with Purpose: Maisha’s Strengthening Families Experience

When Maisha first learned about Thornwell’s Strengthening Families Program, she recognized it as exactly what she needed. As a mother of five, she wanted to grow as a parent and find the tools to support her children. A counselor at Thornwell Charter School encouraged her to step forward in faith, trusting that Thornwell could provide the resources to strengthen her family.

Initially, it wasn’t easy. Maisha had always faced challenges as a parent, often feeling overwhelmed and resorting to yelling. However, as the 14-session program progressed, the classes offered her something she had been missing—a support system. She realized she wasn’t alone; she found other parents on similar journeys, all striving to build stronger, healthier relationships with their children.

Families like Maisha’s do not have to walk this journey alone. Unwavering support provides the encouragement and resources parents need to create a brighter future for their children.

Her “aha” moment came when she saw her children actively participating in class. It was no longer just about her learning; her children were growing, too. Together, they discovered the power of positive reinforcement, the importance of open and effective communication, and the impact of rewarding good behavior. Over time, Maisha began to see real change. Household responsibilities became shared, and daily struggles evolved into meaningful conversations.
