The Importance of Loving Children and Families
“Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy. It does not boast. It is not proud. It does not dishonor others. It is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4–8
We asked a few Thornwell employees what they love about Thornwell and what Thornwell means to them. This is what they said:
“There are many things I love about Thornwell but what I love most are the people! The ministry of Thornwell is made up of passionate, dedicated, energetic people who work together and support each other through good times and through tough times. To me, Thornwell means a warm, stable, supportive home for young people who need time to heal and find hope again.”
– Peggy Nibert, Read Right Director
“I have worked at Thornwell for 36 years. Thornwell has been a blessing to me. I love and respect the ministry. My longevity has allowed me to enjoy watching my colleagues, Thornwell Trustees, alumni, volunteers, and many others express their love for Thornwell’s ministry through their kind words and service.”
– Kimberly Roberson, Senior Executive Assistant to the President
“I love Thornwell because we believe that ALL people deserve life and love in abundance – not just a select few, the “right” few. We see all people as beloved children of God – filled with value and worth. That means that we always see the hope of possibility, of redemption, even when situations feel dark and desperate. Thornwell invites everyone to be a part of the story of God’s healing in whatever way they can – by fostering, volunteering, donating, advocating, sharing. Our staff on the frontlines of serving and supporting children, youth, and families are amazingly compassionate, caring, and competent. This is why we see the life change we do! We focus on loving God and loving our neighbor. And I think that today loving our neighbors – especially our neighbors who think, look, act, believe differently than we do – is a radical act.”
– Kaley Lindquist, Program Marketing and Recruitment Specialist
“Why I love Thornwell: Being able to play a small part in Thornwell’s 148 history, with likeminded others, of being the hands and feet of Jesus to children and families. We love our children and families, of course, as well as Thornwell’s greatest asset—its people!.”
– Gregory W. Haselden, CPA, CGMA, Vice President for Finance/CFO
Join in virtually on February 14th for our Share the Love Event! This 30-minute gathering will be spent celebrating the love of caregivers! Everything you do – as parents, foster parents, kinship caregivers, advocates, and supporters of children and families – is an act of LOVE. We know that the love you share each day cannot be measured, which makes Thornwell even more thankful for your serving and compassionate heart! YOU are making a difference!
As we join in fellowship, we will prayerfully reflect on the beauty that family love provides – family in all its wide and wonderful forms – and hear powerful stories of a caregiver’s love.
When you register, you are entered for the chance to win a Family Valentine’s Day Gift Basket worth $100. The winner will be chosen LIVE at 1:30 pm (must be present to win).
