Thornwell Volunteer Serve Days are Spent Making a Difference

Thornwell welcomed 39 volunteers from First Presbyterian Church of Anderson, South Carolina and St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church from Dunwoody, Georgia, for the first Volunteer Serve Days event! The volunteers generously donated their time and talent to help Thornwell’s historic campus.

They worked on various projects, including sanding and sealing decks, washing and cleaning vehicles for cottages, and volunteering at Thornwell’s annual Pig Pickin’ event to feed and serve children, campers, staff, alumni, and other volunteers.

According to Thornwell Community Engagement Coordinator Jenny Turner, the volunteer service days are an opportunity for people to learn more about the ministry of Thornwell and connect with the ministry while completing several service projects. “Volunteers are the heart and backbone of the ministry, and we are grateful for their support and desire to help youth and families who have been abused or neglected,” she added.

Thornwell Board Member and St. Luke’s Volunteer Mary Martin shared her experience, stating that participating in Thornwell’s service days was meaningful for their church. They had an intergenerational group of 17 people, ages 6 to 60+, and enjoyed working on the projects, interacting with the children and staff, and participating in the annual Pig Pickin’. She left with an appreciation for the wonderful work of this ministry.

Jenny Turner noted that service days are a success because everyone comes together with the same passion and desire to serve others while working together to bless those served by Thornwell.

It’s clear that helping hands and generous hearts make all the difference!
