Turning Darkness into Light
by Rev. Elliot M. Smith, President
Sweet summertime, “the good ole days.” Maybe you remember your salty, sun-kissed face after a fun-filled day doing all of your favorite things. Those same feelings likely bring back fond memories of that special time with mom and dad, a grandparent, sibling, or best friend. Summertime is often a time we connect in new ways, build memories, and grow as families. And for the kids at Thornwell, summer is all that and more.
Many of our kids have never been to camp, dipped their feet into the ocean, or swum in a pool. You see, up to this point, the idea of summertime struck fear. It meant they may or may not be fed, no longer rely on the comfort of a teacher, and certainly no hope of things to come.
You can change all that. With your generous help, our kids will get to be kids too – with opportunities to make the same kinds of childhood memories you and I are so fortunate to share.

Nate is new to Thornwell and for the first time in a long time, he’s becoming part of a family. He’s learning he doesn’t have to be the “parent” responsible for raising his little brother and fending for himself. It’s not easy, but with the comfort of a safe and loving home, he’s beginning to trust again and allowing himself to be a kid and have some fun.
YOU can help provide “firsts” for Nate this summer with your gift of support. Your gift will be used for activities like summer camp, a Thornwell family vacation, and visits to the snow cone stand!
Will you please send your gift today to support building life-long memories for Nate and all the kids we serve?
We are so grateful for friends like you that make summer memories possible for kids like Nate who haven’t had their turn at being a kid. Thank you!
